SERIGRAPHIC WORKS
In this solo exhibition at CQ University (Brisbane City), my serigraphic prints are escapist works that arise from an intricate global life. I am a British-Australian artist and a child of a mosaic of diasporas. I established an art practice in England where I received most of my training in the fine arts. Today my studio is based on a wee Queensland Island close to where I spent my childhood.
My objective in creating this body of work is an act of imagination, and emotion from the female perspective. I was inspired by the local fauna that visits my coastal neighbourhood and my travels to Honshu, Japan. The decision to hand-pull each piece allow me tactile freedom to explore the boldness & richness of the inks' hues at every stage of the multi-level printmaking process.
The printmaking process
The foundation of these serigraphic prints starts with hand-drawings before they are converted and burnt into a thermally sensitive screen matrix.
Serigraphic prints
...are fine art screenprints, where ink is pushed through a mesh.
Origins:
sericum meaning silk (Latin)
graphos meaning to write (Greek)
The foundation of these serigraphic prints starts with hand-drawings before they are converted and burnt into a thermally sensitive screen matrix.
Each matrix is individually inked and pulled by hand. This technique allows me the flexibility to create a unique palette.
